What really brings the price down
- Book in advance. The price rises as the date approaches and in high season the cheap cars run out. Booking weeks ahead is what saves the most.
- Compare terminal vs. off-airport. Companies with an office outside the grounds (with a shuttle) are usually cheaper than those at the desk itself; in return, you lose a few minutes on the transfer.
- Watch the excess and the insurance. The “cheap” rate often carries a high excess; fully comprehensive cover with no excess raises the price but avoids the deposit shock.
- Full-to-full fuel. Avoid “full-to-empty” policies, where you pay for a full tank up front.
- Small car. In Lanzarote many roads and car parks in the tourist areas are narrow; a small car is cheaper to hire, to park and to refuel.
